Playa de Palma is a beach resort during the day and turns into an entertainment venue with bars and discos in the evening. The area is surrounded by palm trees with a beautiful beach promenade and offers a wide range of bathing and water sports in the bay of Palma. Bathing fun and water slides can be found at Aqualand El Arenal. This therefore attracts many families. After countless souvenir shops, restaurants, nightclubs and theme bars, more and more elegant hotels and gourmet restaurants are opening.
There are lifeguards everywhere, plenty of free toilets and areas where you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas.
For going out, Playa de Palma is like no other resort on Mallorca: the city center can be reached quickly by public transport and there is plenty to do in the surrounding area, making the resort a good choice for the more active and party-loving holidaymakers.
As a tourist stronghold, Playa de Palma naturally has plenty to offer. A favorite is the Palma Aquarium. The beach is very busy, both during the day and at night. You will love the golden sandy beach and can decide how busy you would like it to be on its 6 km length.
In 1917, the first hostel opened on Playa de Palma. Half a century later, there were no more than a handful of hotels on the playa.
The "Riu San Francisco" is not just any hotel on Mallorca but a classic par excellence. It was first opened as a guesthouse in 1953 on what is probably the island's most important entertainment mile. It is considered the longest-serving hotel on the playa, only a few steps away from the most famous beach kiosk "Balneario 6", long before this "Ballermann 6" even existed.
When the hotel was built, Playa de Palma was still largely virgin. Kilometers of sand and wasteland overgrown with scrub can be seen in photographs from that time: An unbelievably unusual sight of the beach and its natural dunes at that time. At that time, only a narrow gravel road, today's promenade, ran along the shore, with no sign of cars far and wide.
Then suddenly the rush of holidaymakers from England, Germany, France, Holland and Scandinavia began.
The beach pub, the well-known "Balneario 6" where German tourists in particular gather, consists of a little steel house and is equipped with a bar, beer taps, toilets and a storage room. In front of it is an enclosed terrace with seating and parasols. The whole thing is spanned by a semi-translucent steel construction between two light poles, which provides shade during the day and light at night.
Even though the reputation of "Balneario 6" is now very controversial, and Playa de Palma is widely believed to counteract the clichés, it has probably always helped to make the Balearic island famous and will probably always remain in everyone's memory.
Playa de Palma leaves nothing to be desired. In the Megapark, for example, directly at Balneario 5, you can expect good music, many artists from all over the world and a varied audience.
One thing is guaranteed: It definitely won't be boring!
